Clean & Green NZ?
"No You're Not" Says World Tourist & Travel

Lake Matheson on New Zealand's South Island

And to prove it, the World Economic Forum took a hard look at our Billboards and listed NZ dead last out of 130 countries for biodiversity protection and 95th for carbon dioxide emissions. We are close to the highest CO2 emitter in the world.

Although ranked 19th in the world as a tourist destination it is only by accident rather than design that we manage to hold this position by the skin of our fingertips.

Our under populated country makes little demand on the environment but we still manage to stuff that up big time, in fact it would be interesting to pro rata the population v. environmental damage of a few countries — bet we are in the leading pack!

Although there are few of us, we have so far managed to pollute 90% of our lowland rivers, ravage our native lowland forest (only 20% of this now pest-ridden paradise is left standing); drain 90% of our wetlands and wipe out 58 species of wildlife including over 40% of our native birds — gone forever — and still we plunder on…

The Incoming Government MUST Take a Tough Environmental Stand

Fishing, (over a third of species offered in the market place are on the Red List —see below),
Farming, (farmers are still not responsible for their pollutants, the taxpayer is funding the multi-million dollar clean up of the Rotorua lake and the Waikato River; Fonterra farmers nests are so full of their own shit, Fonterra is looking off-shore for other investments rather than pay up to clean up their own backyard),
Air Pollution (Auckland’s air pollution is regularly worse than Los Angeles),
Eco Tourism (we are incurring losses of over $950 million a year and export losses over $500 million a year).

THE GREENPEACE NEW ZEALAND RED FISH LIST
The Greenpeace New Zealand seafood red list is a list of fish that are commonly sold in New Zealand and should be avoided at all costs because they have a very high risk of being sourced from unsustainable fisheries.

The New Zealand citizen has to make a tough stand on their most precious possession — the fragile and fast disappearing land base.

Take a look at the rivers — the majority are dying from lack of water, pollution, chemical toxicity, damming, (Trust Power now want to stuff up another priceless public asset).

Take a look at your soil — much of it won't grow anything unless tonnes of fertilisers are used.
Take a long look at the way you treat your farm animals — grazing your best cows along the roadside while the rest of your starving herd head for the hole in the back paddock no longer fools anyone.
Take a look at pesticide use — these killers will come back to bite you well and truly on the bits around your bum. And no amount of money in your bank is going to stop your cancer, your asthma, your ME, your immune crises.

Until the air your breath, the water you drink, the food you eat affects YOUR PERSONAL HEALTH, your slide into the irreversible will continue; in the meantime if it’s making you money, just bring it on mate.
